In October 2000, MaPS, Inc. began Phase 1 – GPS mapping of the
road network. MaPS, Inc. subcontracted the initial GPS
field verification/data collection sweep, mapping
obvious and accessible structures. MaPS, Inc. followed
up that initial effort with a more in-depth field
review, mapping more remote structures and private
lanes/subdivisions. MaPS, Inc. ultimately captured over
1,550 miles of roads and mapped over 7,000 structures
including those structures in 3 incorporated cities and
11 unincorporated communities, as well as a large
portion of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Indian
Reservation. MaPS, Inc. completed the Postal
Coordination and Address Notification tasks of the
project and the Telephone Company Coordination. The
County went “live” with their E-911 System on June 7,
2006, using Bullberry System Inc.’s R3Dispatch
software based on MaPS, Inc.’s GIS data. Their ALI data
is provided via CenturyTel’s 9-1-1 telephone network.
MaPS, Inc. trained County staff on the assignment of new
physical addresses using the GIS and on mapping maintenance
of new construction (and GIS integration). MaPS, Inc.
developed large-scale wall map layouts and a detailed
emergency services atlas and provided training to County
staff on their maintenance. MaPS, Inc. is providing ongoing
consulting/tech support and specialty map products/data as
requested/needed. For instance, MaPS, Inc. prepared a
detailed Sign Survey – atlases and a database – outlining
what signs were needed (public and private roads) at over
1,300 intersections. The County recently oversaw a local
contractor’s installation of intersection signs County-wide.
