In April 2001, MaPS, Inc. resurrected Granite County’s
uncompleted E-911 & GPS/GIS project that was started by
Miller Mgmt./Benchmark GIS of Missoula, MT several years
earlier. The County’s infrastructure was re-collected
with GPS (all roads and structure locations) and digital
photographs taken of each addressable structure. All of
the field data was processed and integrated to create a
comprehensive GIS for the County. The E-911 project
included a comprehensive re-addressing effort,
standardizing road names and re-assigning any addresses
that did not “fit” the GIS data and culminated with
Postal coordination and address notifications sent out
county-wide. An atlas was developed and distributed to
all of the emergency response agencies, including being
sold from the Courthouse. Wall maps are also slated for
development.
The County’s E-911 System was turned “live” in late August
2007 using Bulberry System Inc.’s Insight (ArcGIS 9.2
platform) software based on MaPS, Inc.’s GIS data – all
relying on CenturyTel, the County’s E-911 Database Provider,
to provide ALI data. MaPS, Inc. then worked with the local
wireless carriers and Intrado to implement Phase 2 Wireless
for the County. An updated atlas with integrated USFS road
network data has also recently been completed.
